About The Boat

IMOCA 60

Alex’s last boat was built in 2007, by renowned French architects Finot Conq, and was designed specifically for Alex’s style of solo round the world racing. The boat was one of the most powerful in its class and during the 2007 Barcelona World Race broke the world monohull 60’ distance record, which Alex already held, and then went onto to take 2nd place in the first edition of this double handed round the world race.

Last year Alex made the decision to purchase a new boat, which had already competed in and finished The Vendee Globe. Built to an even more powerful specification this new IMOCA 60 will be launched in May 2010 after undergoing a 4 month refit. The new Juan K designed racing yacht will be significantly more powerful than any other boat in its class, and is 37% more powerful than the next generation of IMOCA boats which will be allowed under new IMOCA rules.

The boat has been redesigned and optimised for sailing for one man, and will allow Alex to compete at the very front of his class in the coming years.
